Extra care housing

For people aged 55 or over who have a housing, care and support need and want to remain independent for as long a possible

Extra care housing is designed to enable people to remain independent for as long as possible. It offers different levels of care and support which can be flexible as people's care needs change over time.

Extra care housing provides people with self-contained apartments, access to communal and other facilities and 24-hour on-site care and support services.

To be considered for extra care housing you need to:

  • usually be aged 55 and over
  • have a housing, care and support need
  • usually live in or have a connection to the district where the scheme is located
